WhatsApp AI for business in the UAE: where it helps and where it doesn't
UAE customers live on WhatsApp. Where AI on WhatsApp saves time, where it can hurt customer relationships, and how to start without losing the personal touch.
In the UAE, many customers would rather send a WhatsApp message than fill in a form or make a call. That’s great for sales, and hard on teams answering the same questions all day from personal phones.
With my team at MechPlan, we built Alin, a live WhatsApp AI business platform, so this is a topic close to my work. Here’s how I think about it.
Where WhatsApp AI helps
- First responses: an instant, accurate reply to common questions, any time of day.
- Qualifying enquiries: asking the two or three questions your sales team always asks.
- Booking and reminders: confirming appointments and reducing no-shows.
- Order and delivery updates: answering “where is my order?” without a person.
- Routing: sending complex or sensitive conversations to the right person quickly.
Where it doesn’t help
- When your answers aren’t written down. AI can’t give consistent answers your team doesn’t agree on.
- Complaints and emotional conversations. These need a person, quickly.
- Complex, custom sales. AI can start the conversation; a person should close it.
Before you switch it on
- Move to a shared business inbox. Customer conversations shouldn’t live on one person’s phone.
- List your top 20 questions and write the best answer to each.
- Decide the handover rule: when does a conversation go to a person, and how fast?
- Agree on one number to track, such as first-response time or enquiries handled without a person.
- Respect privacy. Be clear with customers, and handle their data carefully.
Start small
Pick one use case, such as first responses outside working hours. Run it for 30 days, check the number, then expand.
Not sure if your customer channels are ready? The free AI Readiness Scorecard checks tools and channels alongside strategy, processes, data and people.
So, how might we reply to every customer within one hour, without adding staff?
